"This is a truly fantastic hideaway nestled in the lush vegetation at the base of the Volcano area. All the staff were wonderfully attentive, kind, and accommodating. Food was excellent as were the accommodations that were extremely clean. We shorted the room late one night and within minutes they had power restored once again. We will recommend to others and definitely return again. BRAVO!"

"We loved staying here! The setting was lovely and Lisa was a wonderful host. She made terrific suggestions in the area and in Hilo. Top things: The breakfasts in our room were delicious and a treat. The proximity to Volcanoes National Park made it easy to pop in at different times of day to hike, see the lava or drive the chain of craters road.

It was fun to curl up with a movie (they have a huge selection!) in the evening.

Overall, I highly recommend as a unique place to stay to see this part of the island!"

"Definitely an oasis in the jungle. Accommodations were top notch. Loved the breakfast placed in our room daily and the snacks available. John was so welcoming on our arrival and so helpful with suggestions during our stay. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay near Volcano National Park."

"This place couldn't be any better. Almost afraid to let this gem of secret out for fear I wont be able to book a room in the future without significant advance notice but these guys deserve a great review. Atmosphere is incredible. Its my dream home really and the design is indescribably awesome. One of the best places we could have ever stayed. Will be back for sure"

"Our family of three had a wonderful stay in the Mauna Loa suite. We really appreciated:
1) the lodge's proximity to Volcanoes National Park,
2) the amazing morning breakfasts included (fresh local fruit and, during our stay, quiche, pancakes, and french toast),
3) the solitude, and
4) the overall quality of service.

The suite was extremely comfortable thanks to the soft, but supportive beds, nicely sized bath, and ample heating (it was a bit chilly in December at this elevation). Our 13-year-old daughter had plenty of room to sleep in her own dedicated bedroom. We also enjoyed the meditation loft and front porch. Despite the suites being grouped together on one property, it's easy to maintain a sense of privacy thanks to ample landscaping and foliage. It feels a bit like staying in a tropical tree house.

Can't wait to return."

"The lodge is located in a small town, but feels very remote! The pictures don't do it justice - everything was perfect from the accommodations to the staff. Highly recommend. Very close to Volcanos National Park - easy to get to during the day and at night."

"Absolutely loved staying here. It was so quiet and peaceful outside. We ate banana nut pancakes for breakfast the days we were here. It started off rough since the power and water were out by the time we arrived after our long flight (530p). And it was rainy. We found a place to get some thai food nearby and took it back to our cabin and ate by lantern light. Since we had nothing to do and it was cold, we went to bed. At around 9p the lights came back on suddenly which woke us up but we were glad to have power/hot water again. The next day though, the person running the front desk I think was trying to make it up to customers by giving them fresh French Toast (in addition to the banana pancakes that were in everyone's fridge). They also provided free snacks/water that we could take on hikes. While we were out, they cleaned our room and restocked our fridge with pancakes and fruit/water. While the first few hrs started off a bit rough (something brought on by the winds/rain), it was my fave place to stay on our trip: the property was very quiet, the room was beautiful w the big windows, the bed/sheets were comfy and clean, the tub was nice and wide for 2 ppl (albeit short for my husband), and the fruit and pancakes were yummy (though I wish they had real maple syrup to go w it). The only real negative was that our room was attached to the reception desk area (I believe this was stated on their website when booking though). Imagine a large cabin with half of it being dedicated to a customer cabin (bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen) with only a locked door separating the 2 areas. That being said, while we did hear ppl check in/ask questions, the whole property doesn't house that many ppl in general so aside from 1 or 2 moments, it was very quiet (and those moments were in the morning from what i remember). On our last morning, I did hear more commotion from children (i think a worker brought her kids to work that day since it was a Saturday when we left). The property is also very close to HVNP so we spent our days over there. Def would come back to visit!"
