Be prepared

Most people think of Hawaii as hot and sunny. Well that’s true on all the other islands, except for the Big Island. Did you know we have almost every climate zone on Hawaii Island? That means the whether changes quickly! It can go from hot and sunny, to rainy and chilly within 20 miles. And this is probably the strangest occurrence most people can’t grasp when they are traveling to Hawaii. Now, especially in Volcano, the weather is so unpredictable. Being at nearly 4,000ft in elevation it can be warm, but not hot. On nice, clear, sunny days there’s no other place I want to be but in Volcano. With that said, the temperature won’t reach above 80 degrees! However, since Volcano is located in a rain forest we typically get an afternoon/evening mist or rain. This makes the temperature drop considerably with an average temperature of 65 degrees. We always advise our guests to wear layers and bring a raincoat. I know, I know. It seems outlandish to pack a jacket, sweatshirt, or fleece on your Hawaiian vacation. But TRUST me, it’ll be a lifesaver. So, if you are planning on staying with us or just visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park for the day, be prepared. Even if you are exploring other parts of the island, like the summit of Mauna Kea, you will want these layers. Be prepared and make your vacation a great one!
