Through September 27 | Volcano Art Center Gallery, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park
A fine art exhibition featuring the work of Heidi Fickinger and Heather Mettler, on view at the gallery inside the national park. The gallery is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., an easy stop on the way in or out of the park. Free to visit, though park entry fees apply.
Bound By Compassion
Through September 20 | Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus, Volcano Village
A group art exhibition at the Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village, open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It sits within walking distance of the estate, so it makes for an easy afternoon stop close to home.
Volcano Winery Monthly Gatherings
September 13 and 26, October 11 and 24 | Volcano Winery, Volcano Village
The winery holds two regular community gatherings minutes from the estate. The Second Sunday Mākeke runs 12:00PM to 4:00PM with local wine, food, live music, and artisan crafts, on September 13 and October 11. The Fourth Saturday Pāʻina brings live local music and food vendors, on September 26 and October 24. Both are free to attend.
Fee Free Days at Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park
September 17 | Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park
No entrance fees at the national parks on September 17 for Constitution Day. The date falls on a weekday, when the park tends to be less crowded.
Hula Kahiko in the Park
September 12 and October 10 | Volcano Art Center Gallery, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park
A free outdoor hula performance at the kahua hula, the hula platform, inside the national park. Hālau from across Hawaiʻi perform traditional hula and chant facing Halemaʻumaʻu. September 12 features Manaiakalani Kālua with Akaunu, and October 10 features Iwalani Kalima with Hula Hālau Kou Lima Nani. Free, though park entry fees apply.
Annual Hawaii Island All Nations Powwow

The Hawaii Island All Nations Powwow is a vibrant, family-friendly gathering that celebrates Indigenous cultures through dance, song, art, and community. Held in honor of Native American and Kanaka Maoli traditions, the event features intertribal performances, cultural exhibitions, and welcomes all with a spirit of unity and respect.
VAC Golf Tournament
September 14 | Volcano Golf Course, Volcano Village
The Volcano Art Center hosts its annual golf tournament fundraiser at the Volcano Golf Course, a short drive from the estate. It’s a four-person scramble with check-in at 7 a.m. and an 8 a.m. tee time. Entry is $125 per player and includes 18 holes with a cart, range balls, a bento lunch, awards, and door prizes. All proceeds support education and community programs at the Volcano Art Center.

Cooper Center Craft Fair and Swap Meet
September 26, October 10 and 24, 9:00AM – 1:00PM | Cooper Center, Volcano Village
An indoor market at the community center in Volcano Village. Local vendors bring handmade crafts, jewelry, plants, food, and gently used finds. Since it is indoors, it makes an easy plan on a rainy afternoon.
Hawaiʻi Island Festival of Birds
October 24 | Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo
Celebrate Hawaiʻi’s native birds and rich ecosystems at the Hawaiʻi Island Festival of Birds. The event features expert talks, guided excursions, and cultural activities highlighting the islands’ unique feathered wildlife and conservation efforts.
Kamahalo Holiday Craft Fair
November 27-28 | Cooper Center, Volcano Village
A village tradition the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving, with more than 30 vendors offering handmade and homegrown goods. A good one to have up early so holiday-season travelers can plan around it.
