For the Venturous Couple

Hawaii is famous for the breathtaking views, vivid greenery, and stunning beaches. For those who love to spend time together in the great outdoors, it is only fitting to witness all that the big island of Hawaii has to offer.

While at Volcanoes National Park, take the drive along the Chain of Craters Road. Take a hike along one of the many trails throughout the park. Explore the craters on the Halema’uma’u Crater Trail, or take a look close-up to the petroglyphs left behind by the indigenous peoples on the Petroglyphs Trail.

Magnificent Waterfalls

Who can forget the magnificent waterfalls of Hawaii? There are many waterfalls to see with many levels of accessibility. ‘Akaka Falls for example, a 442 foot tall magnificent waterfall, is only a short hike from the car. For a closer option, try Rainbow Falls just outside the town of Hilo, known for its distinctive color when the light is just right.

A Day in Hilo

Located on the coast, this vibrant town is home to an array of wonders. Hilo is only a 45 minute drive from our bed and breakfast. It is very easy to explore Hilo as a day trip. Some remarkable sites to see include the Pana’ewa Rainforest Zoo, the only rainforest zoo in the nation, and the Imiloa Astronomy Center. End your day with a night on the town by visiting the East Hawaii Cultural Center, browse local shops, and enjoy yourself with fresh seafood and Hawaiian cuisine. Hilo showcases the open farmers market, one of the most notorious in Hawaii. Here, local goods like roasted coffee, exotic tropical fruit, and sweet treats are sold.

Craft Chocolate

Hawaii is home to some of the most fertile soil ideal for growing cacao. The chocolate made from these beans is surely something to bring back to the family. Several chocolate farms surround the Volcano Village Lodge giving you ample opportunity to savor this fine treat.

The closest farm is Puna Gold Estate. Here, they infuse fruits and veggies from their own garden to create totally unique and delectable chocolate blends. You can find these chocolates sold at Island Naturals stores. Bring some back to the lodge to indulge in with your significant other and a bottle of champagne or wine.

Indulge in the Best Coffee Around

Much like the success of chocolate, the island is perfectly suited to grow coffee. Hundreds of individually-owned coffee farms scatter the Kona region. Traveling to Kona is a great side trip on your way to Volcano. Visit one of these farms to take a tour and taste the freshest coffee there is, brewed on the spot. If a day trip to Kona does not suit your schedule, we happily serve the coffee from these farms every morning. If the drive isn’t for you, you will certainly not miss out. If you are a coffee aficionado, consider visiting us in November to catch the annual coffee festival

Create a Flower Lei to Show Your Love

Tradition is rooted in much of the culture here. The Volcano Village Lodge hosts activities that bring out the true Hawaiian spirit. We showcase a lei-making class offering you the special opportunity to create a personal lei using native flowers. There is nothing more appropriate than making a lei for Lei Day on May 1st!

Leis hold a significant meaning in Hawaiian culture. Choosing the right flowers in your lei is important. The Pikake, for example, is a very popular choice. This flower is fragrant and symbolizes love, purity, and immortality – perfect as a gift for a loved one. The White Ginger flower is another great option for those feeling romantic. They represent admiration and respect

Visit the Volcano Winery

After a day exploring Volcanoes National Park, visit the Volcano Winery, located only 10 minutes from the Volcano Village Lodge. The volcanic soil brings a special flavor to the wine, a taste found nowhere else. Enjoy a wine flight in the tasting room overlooking the vineyard with your significant other. Tour the estate and tea garden and engage with connoisseurs alike.

Bringing home a bottle from their collection of seven unique wines makes for the perfect honeymoon souvenir. If you are a couple who enjoys the finer things in life, visiting the Volcano Winery is a must!

Breathtaking Beaches

With a warm breeze on your skin and the feel of soft sand under your feet, it’s hard to picture a better setting for a romantic Hawaii experience than on the beach. Walk on the black sands of Kehena Beach, make the worthwhile trip to Hapuna Beach (regarded as one of the best beaches in the country), or go to the southern tip and check out Papakolea (Green Sand) Beach. Come back kissed by the sun!

Dine Above a Volcano

A delicious meal can elevate a good day to a great day. Fortunately, you needn’t go far to satisfy your cravings. We love to recommend the Rim at Volcano House in Volcano National Park for a romantic dinner. With the Halema’uma’u Crater as a backdrop and regular live music, all your senses will come to life during this meal. Begin your dinner with the seared blackened ahi sashimi and Kilauea caesar salad. You and your spouse can each enjoy entrees like the Volcano house pasta or the Hawaii Ranchers ribeye for meat lovers.
