HOTEL & OCCUPANCY QUESTIONS

Our office is open from 9 am – 6 pm HST. After office hours we can arrange for self check-in with prior notice. Check in is anytime from 3 pm to 6 p.m. 7 days a week.
Check out is by 11 a.m. Late check-out fees do apply; if you check out after 11 a.m. but before noon there is a $50 charge, check-outs between noon and 1 p.m. are $100.
When booking directly on our website you are required to pay a one-night deposit to hold your reservation. When booking through an online travel agent you are required to pay 100% of the cost of the booking. All deposits are non-refundable.
Please view our Policy page for information on cancellations. We strongly suggest purchasing travel insurance.
Yes. We do have a 2 night minimum requirement at certain times and with certain offers.
No. Air conditioning is not necessary in Volcano due to its high elevation. Volcano Village is located at 4,000 ft in the heart of a rainforest. Our rooms have fireplaces for the cooler temperatures at night and warming blankets on the beds.
Mauna Loa can hold up to 4 guests. Hale Manaluna, Haleakala, and Mauna Kea can hold up to 3 guests. Hale Kilauea has a strict 2 person maximum. Our maximum occupancy for each room cannot be broken and additional guests will be turned away. Additional guests over 2 per room is $30.00 per night.
Yes. Breakfast is included and prepared daily. Due to Hawaii State Laws pertaining to Bed & Breakfast we are not able to serve hot meals, however our guests love the idea of being able to eat in their rooms at any time of the morning. Rooms are stocked daily with fresh fruit, teas, coffee, water and a hot item that you can heat up at your own leisure using the in-room kitchenette.
Yes, children are welcome, and they have to remain under supervision while staying with us. Please note that our nightly room rates are based on double occupancy. Additional guests are charged a $30 fee per night, per additional guest. This fee covers the extra cost of breakfast, linens, and cleaning. This fee is applicable to any additional guest, regardless of age.
No. There must be a person over the age of 21 years of age staying in each guest room. Volcano Village Lodge reserves the right to remove guests who are in violation of this policy. Parents are held responsible for any damage caused by unsupervised children.
Yes. Our guest rooms are more like private rainforest lodges. Each lodge has its own bathroom, kitchenette, and dining area. Daily housekeeping services are also included in the cost of the room. Under the recommendation of the American Hotel and Lodging Association, we have restricted housekeeping due to Covid.
PARK & AREA QUESTIONS
Yes. A rental car is a necessity when staying in our area. The national park is very large and hard to explore solely on foot. Restaurants and stores in Volcano Village are just a couple of miles from our lodge, however, walking to these areas is not recommended. Volcano Village does not have sidewalks and there are no streetlights after dark. Please note: There is no public transportation available in our area. If you are unable to rent a car, it will be necessary to line up transportation in advance. There are taxis available at the Hilo Airport that can bring you to Volcano, but you will need to line up a tour guide to take you around the area each day.
We are conveniently located 2 miles or 5 minutes from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
We are 45 minutes from Hilo International Airport and 3 hours from Kona International Airport.
Tour guides for Hawaii Volcanoes National Park are available, but should be planned one month or more in advance. However, like many national parks, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is designed to be toured independently. There is a visitor center with interpretative rangers, maps, and instructions for safe hiking around the volcano. For help in planning your trip, visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

The weather changes drastically around the entire island. Volcano Village is cooler with average temperatures in the mid-60°F’s to low-70°F’s. Nighttime temps can drop down to the low 50°F’s, so we encourage guests to be prepared by packing a jacket and/or sweater. Remember this is a tropical rainforest area with native plants and frequent rains.
The town of Volcano Village is quite small. There are a few restaurants in Volcano Village for dinner and a few lunch spots. There are two small general stores with drinks and snacks. Nearby Hilo and Kona offer larger grocery stores.
