The Big Island of Hawaii had it’s first HUGE snow storm of 2014. It’s pretty remarkable…Typically you think of Hawaii and it’s beaches, but have you really associated Hawaii with snow? Don’t be fooled, the Big Island has almost all the climate zones and weather changes drastically and very quickly.

With that said, the snow just adds to the natural beauty of this place. From Volcano, this morning we were able to see flashes of the snow on both Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. After looking at the webcams, we realized how much it really did snow and how low it went in elevation.

On Mauna Kea it went almost to the visitor center at 9,000 ft! In Hawaii Volcanoes National Park it covered Red Hill which is at 10,000ft! The great news is that it looks like is staying up there for a few days. So make sure if you’re on the Big Island in the next few days to drive up Mauna Kea for a whole new experience of snow.
