Cooper's Center Farmers Market

Fresh farm produce is something I love to seek out when I travel. It usually means locally grown food, a selection of items you cannot easily find at home, lower prices than the store, and better quality. Within a few miles of Volcano Village Lodge, every Sunday from 6 a.m. thru 10 a.m. at the Cooper Center’s is the local farmer’s market, and it is buzzing with people. This week on offer were fresh Rainbow Papaya; 3 for $1.00, home grown cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes and much more. The market also showcases a number of the Volcano artists with jewelry, clothing and art work. You also get to hear a lot of what is going on as it is frequented mostly by the locals. National Park Rangers were also on hand this week to answer questions about the volcanic activity. If your travel plans bring you to the lodge on a Saturday night then we recommend visiting the market, early on Sunday morning to pick up fruit, pies and other goodies, and take them with you on a picnic. If you miss the farmer’s market in Volcano, there is a daily market in Hilo where you can still find fruit, vegetables and various items for your day trips. Book today at either Volcano Village Lodge, or at our vacation rental in Volcano, 5th Street Ohana. Farmers Market: Sundays: 6:00 a.m.– 10:00 a.m. Bookstore/Thrift Store: Tuesday- Saturday, 8:00 am – 11:30 am, and during many events. Find craft, clothing, books and other items.
